Cooking Up Your Own Food Magazine

Some say a messy kitchen is a sign of happiness… If that’s true, then my family is REALLY happy!

Our little home is made up of myself, my partner-in-crime husband of almost 10 years, our two-year-old son James, and our soon-to-be college freshman daughter, Saphel. We also have one rescue dog named Elvis and 3 curious lizards. I’m also fortunate enough to have one amazing mom, and two very supportive sets of in-laws.

One of my mother-in-laws, Kathy, who lives a few states apart from us in Morrison, CO, has a reputable passion for cooking. I myself, have a serious weak spot for her infamous holiday cookies and the family “cheeseball.” No joke, she makes dozens of these cheeseballs every Christmas by popular demand—something all of us look forward to (and selfishly demand) upon immediate arrival into her home.

Many years ago, Kathy compiled her most prized family recipes and created a cookbook for the entire family (this was years before I ever even met my husband). As you can see, the cookbook has gone through several moves, and has gotten a lot of use—but is now completely falling apart. It also doesn’t contain any photos. It’s something that Kathy has expressed interest in, but doesn’t really have the means or know-how to create a more “professional” looking cookbook herself. (Let’s give her a little credit here—she JUST learned how to text message a couple years ago!)

That’s when I got this idea—to recreate some of her top original recipes (ok MY favorite recipes) and turn them into our very own family edition Memozines called Kathy’s Kitchen. It will cover 10 of Kathy’s top sweets & treats (and don’t worry, the family cheeseball!!) I’ll blog about my process each step of the way, with a new recipe each week. Since James loves to help mommy in the kitchen, I’m going to let him join in the fun too!

So if you’re a professional food blogger, an average mom like me, or just a foodie at heart, join me on this fun (and super easy!) journey on how to create your own cooking magazine—from scratch!

Luckily, Kathy doesn’t use social media, so I’m hoping this project can stay top secret so I can surprise her with the final printed magazines at Christmas time. Even if the secret does leak out… I know she will LOVE the final result, and I’m hoping the rest of the family does too. I’m so excited, I can barely contain it!!

Cheers to happy memories in the making!
